The Fifth Avatar of Lord Vishnu | Vamana Avatar

Lord Vishnu took Vamana Avatar to protect the devas who became homeless ever since Asura Bali, having consolidated his power, is reigning supreme over the three dimensions.

This story starts on the day when Bali went to meet Rishi Sukracharya and asked hime, that how he can gain back all his power and his kingdom. Hearing Bali’s request, Acharya guided him to perform the Mahabhishek Vishwajeet Yagna to get all his power.After the Yagna Bali received a Golden Chariot, Quiver, a flag post and Celestial Armour. Then, Bali went to battle against Indra, where Indra fled from battlefield. After defeating Indra, Bali keep on performing Yagna. But the good side of the Asura King Bali was, he always give alms to poor and the Brahmins.

On the other hand Aditi, the mother of Devas, is aggrieved at the pitiable state of her son (Indra) and went to Lord Vishnu for help. Lord Vishnu replied and promises to be born as her son. On the auspicious day of confluence of Sravana and Devdasi, Lord Vishnu born as a divine child. He then transformed himself into a Brahmachari boy named as Vamana and went to the spot where Sukracharya and Bali were performing their Yagya.

Bali welcomed the Brahmin boy and said “How can I help you?, you can wish anything you want”. Brahmin boy replied, I don’t need any wealth & luxurious, I just need the land that my three step covered. All the people get surprised, but somehow Sukracharya got to know tha he’s not an ordinary boy. He warned Bali, Though Bali already give his word to the boy to fulfill his request.

Suddenly, the boy started growing in size of earth and took his first step on the Earth, and his second step he put it on heaven. Then Vamana ask Bali “Where should I keep my third step? There is no place left. Though Bali already give him his word, he can not get back from it.

Bali then addressed Vamana and said “Hey Lord you can put your third step on my head”. After hearing this Vamana put his third step to Bali’s head and with force Bali went to the Patal lok. Then Lord Vishnu appeared in his true form and give the blessing to Bali, and said “From now you will ruled the Patal lok forever.

Now Indra and other dieties retained heaven due to the Vamana Avatar of Lord Vishnu.

|| Yada yada hi dharmasya glanir bhavati bharata

Abhyutthanam adharmasya tadatmanam srjamy aham

Paritranaya sadhunam vinasaya ca duskritam

Dharma-samsthapanarthaya sambhavami yuge yuge ||
