Flower of the month: Lilium
Liliums belong to the Liliaceae family, where there are hundreds of varieties. These flowers are mostly found in North America, Europe and Asia. These species of flowers usually grow in the tropical and temperate areas. You can find them growing in mountains, marshes, forests and grasslands. Lilies are considered as some of the most beautiful flowers and due to this they are cultivated all over the world.
The significance of lilies change based on their type, colour and also based on the culture. For example, lilies are used as wedding flowers in China, because it is believed that lilies are form of good luck as this flower will grant the couple a hundred years of love. Whereas the lily is associated with the Goddess of fertility: Ishtar for the Babylonians and Assyrians. For christians lilies are associated with the Virgin Mary; the lilies that are associated with this are Madonna lilies.
The main colours lilies are available in are: red, pink, white, yellow and orange. Each colour of the lilies symbolise different meanings. Red liliums symbolise passion, pink liliums symbolises abundance and prosperity, white liliums symbolise virtue and purity, yellow liliums symbolise enjoyment and thankfulness and orange symbolizes wealth, confidence and pride.
